Portland Woman, 80, Dies in Crash

Date: June 22, 2010
Location: U.S. 26 & NW Cornell Road, Beaverton, Oregon
Names: Betty Jean Joseph, [Unknown]

An 80-year-old Portland woman died June 22, 2010, around 3:35 PM, after a driver apparently ran a red light and crashed into the car she was driving.

According to the Portland Tribune, Betty Jean Joseph, 80, of Portland, was on an overpass on U.S. 26, driving through the Northwest Cornell Road intersection, when witnesses saw a 1994 Isuzu Trooper run a red light and hit the driver’s side of the car Joseph was driving.

Joseph was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Isuzu has not been identified, and an investigation is ongoing. No citations or arrests have been made.

Our thoughts and wishes are with Joseph’s family, and we hope that the investigation turns up some answers for them.

Although we don’t know exactly what happened to cause this crash, it reminds us that driving is a serious responsibility. People who violate the traffic laws, drive while drunk, or operate their vehicles carelessly do not just put themselves at risk, they endanger everyone on the road. That includes bicyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians, highway workers, other drivers, and their own passengers. It includes people of every age, from little children to seniors.

Many questions arise out of an Oregon car crash. And unfortunately, our minds don’t often focus on recovering; they usually go directly to the financial – medical bills, insurance policies, lost wages. How will you and your family get through it? Fortunately, victims have resources. That’s why we’re here.
