Date: December 2, 2009
Location: Highway 99W & SW Bell Road, Sherwood, Oregon
Names: Grace C. Throckmorton, Michael D. Backman

Grace C. Throckmorton, 23, of Portland, Oregon, died December 2, 2009, after she pulled her car into the path of a Jeep Cherokee driven by Michael D. Backman, 27, of Dayton. The accident occurred around 4:15 PM.

According to Salem-News.com,Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies said Throckmorton had been driving east on SW Bell Road, and was stopped at Highway 99W, trying to cross the highway.

As she entered traffic, she pulled her 1999 four-door Honda Accord into the path of an oncoming Jeep driven by Backman. Sgt. Dave Thompson, of the sheriff’s office, told Salem-News.com that Backman “didn’t have time to brake, and he hit Ms. Throckmorton directly in the driver’s side door.”

After the crash, both vehicles spun around, coming to rest on the guardrail near the center median. Throckmorton was wearing a seat belt, and the sheriff’s office said alcohol did not appear to be involved.

Throckmorton was pronounced dead at the scene. Backman suffered minor injuries, and was taken to Providence Newberg Medical Center.

No charges or citations are expected.

Oregon State Police assisted sheriff’s deputies in the crash investigation, along with the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team.

The southbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours during the investigation.

We are saddened by this shocking crash, where so much is uncertain. We can only offer our condolences and prayers to Throckmorton’s family, and send our wishes Backman’s way as well, in hopes that he has no lasting repercussions from this accident. Please know our thoughts are with you.

Many questions arise out of a car crash. And unfortunately, our minds don’t often focus on recovering; they usually go directly to the financial – medical bills, insurance policies, lost wages. How will you and your family get through it? Fortunately, victims have resources.

Important questions to consider when hiring a lawyer:
Does the lawyer understand how to help me pay my medical bills after an accident?
What about testimonials?
What kind of time limits are involved?
What if I have a smaller case?
Are there any hard rules to follow when looking for a great personal injury lawyer?
