Teenage Girl Dies in Van-Truck Crash | Oregon Accident Attorneys

Date: November 24, 2009
Location: Highway 18 & SE Ash Road, Dayton, Oregon
Names: Kalie Mosgrove, Connie Mosgrove, Jolan Miller

A 13-year-old girl died November 24, 2009, around 8:10 PM, when the van she was riding in was hit by a truck, reports The Oregonian. Kalie Mosgrove, 13, of Dayton, Oregon, was killed in the crash. Her mother, Connie Mosgrove, 47, who was driving, was seriously injured. The driver of the truck, Jolan Miller, 33, of Vancouver, was not hurt.

According to an Oregon State Police press release, Connie Mosgrove was driving a 1995 Plymouth Voyager van on SE Ash Street in Dayton, and attempted to cross Highway 18. The van was struck in the passenger side by an eastbound 1995 Ford AeroMax truck pulling an empty car transport trailer. After the crash, the van and truck came to rest on opposite sides of the highway.

Kalie Mosgrove was pronounced dead at the scene. Connie Mosgrove was airlifted by Life Flight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, where, according to Oregon State Police, she was listed in critical condition.

Safety restraint use information was unavailable as of November 26, and Oregon State Police troopers were continuing to investigate.

We send our most heartfelt condolences to the Mosgrove family after this horrific crash. We hope they find support among friends, family, and the community as they grieve, and we add our prayers to all the others going out to them.

Car-truck crashes are always harder on the lighter vehicle. It is important to remember this when gauging when to cross a street or highway. Sometimes, it’s best not to take the chance if there’s any doubt you may make it across in time. And in this situation, traffic on the highway would likely have been going much faster than that on the intersecting street. In an accident like this one involving children or minors, it can be a good idea to contact a qualified personal injury attorney.
