Accident Injuries Do Not Have to Cause Financial Ruin
If You Are Injured By Someone Else’s Carelessness, You Should Not Risk Financial Ruin
If you’ve been in an Oregon car crash or other accident that causes serious injuries, you know that the resulting medical bills can cause disaster. As if it’s not enough that you’re in pain, can’t work, can’t really even enjoy life with all of your injuries; now you’re worried about bankruptcy, too.
Because we at Shulman DuBois LLC see this story often, we are very critical of the health care system. We are very encouraged by Obama’s movement in this direction, and we also are very happy that many in the healthcare industry seem to see the writing on the wall.
A client asked me once, “how can you be in favor of universal health care? Wouldn’t it cut into your bottom line?”
Well, yes I suppose it probably would. Many seriously injured people come to us because they can’t pay their medical bills. Certainly, in a world with universal health care, there would be fewer lawsuits.
But you know what? We welcome that world with open arms! Just as we encourage people to wear seat belts, watch where they’re going, and be careful with their kids.
Our job is to make the world safer. We want there to be fewer injuries, and for people who are injured to get great medical care without going broke. If that puts us out of business, bring it on!
