Pedestrian Accidents and PIP

Oregon law requires every car insurance policy to included what is called personal injury protection coverage, or PIP. PIP benefits pay for your medical bills for a year, or up to $15,000, whichever comes first.

But in a pedestrian-car accident, the injured pedestrian may not have car insurance, and even if they did, it would not come in play. When a pedestrian is hit by a car, he or she is covered under the driver's PIP, according to ORS 742.520.
