I loved working with Sean DuBois. It was a very positive experience. Sean was really great to work with. I would recommend him to anybody, and the process was as pleasant as it possibly could have been.
I never felt stressed about the case. I never felt worried, because I felt like he was really on it, and I trusted him, and he had it covered.
My favorite part of working with him was that he was just very good at what he does, and he just alleviated all that worry.
The results were much better than I had hoped for actually, because going into it the other driver didn’t admit any fault, and so as the case progressed, it got more complicated. What I was being faced with was going to be some percentage my fault, even though it seemed very clear to me that it was definitely not my fault. But because of legality and whatnot in the State of Oregon, Sean was preparing me that there might be some percentage that would be my fault and what that would mean and all that.
So I had prepared myself kind of for the worst case scenario, and it just turned out so much better than I had even hoped, so I was 100 percent not at fault and so that was wonderful.
I was very happy that I didn’t have to have the conversations with the insurance companies on the phone, because it got a little bit complicated, and I was very happy to let someone else who is professional deal with talking to the insurance companies about everything. I think it could have been a lot more messy than it turned out to be and more stressful. I felt like all the stress was taken off of me.
All I had to worry about was getting better and getting back to my normal life, and it was really nice to not have to worry about what I had said to the insurance company, or talking to them again, or trying to prove anything. All I had to do was just get better again. I mean Sean is – he’s great. He’s easy to talk to. He’s very trustworthy. He just allows you to be yourself and just talk about what happened, versus feeling at all like uncomfortable or intimidated or like I’m talking to a lawyer, like what if I say the wrong thing. He’s very calm, and the words are escaping me, but he’s really easy to work with, and I always felt very comfortable working with him.

This can barely express how much I have appreciated your kindness, knowledge, expertise and patience. Without you, my journey would have ended, badly, long ago, and I will never forget that. You were on the front lines during much of my craziness, and your support was essential in helping me prevail in our battle against the "bad guys." You, Joshua, will forever hold a special place in my heart. Keep fighting the good fight, and thank you again. - D. Stephens, Portland, Oregon
Mr. Shulman represented me when several other attorneys basically said my case wasnt worth their time. I had an automobile accident and opted at the time to not go to the hospital and refused medical which apparently was a mistake. My injury was a deeply bruised tailbone that manifested a short time after the accident. I was having trouble sitting down, getting up, climbing stairs and getting in and out of my car. Due to being unable to sit for extended periods of time it was all I could do to get thru my normally scheduled work hours and was unable to work any overtime to help pay my monthly bills. I was becoming more and more financially burdened because of this and had no money to pay Mr. Shulman up front. He graciously took my case without any fee and assisted me through the next year with the case against the person who was at fault in the accident. At the end, he obtained a more than satisfactory settlement for me and deducted his fees from that amount. Throughout the year long case, he remained very positive and encouraged me to be patient through some of my darker times. I was being hounded constantly by bill collectors and was even being garnished by the Oregon Department of Revenue because of a late payment, losing $600 a month from my already dwindling paychecks. It truly was the hardest year of my life. If Mr. Shulman hadn’t been willing to help me without advancing any money up front, I truly would not be in the position I am in today, which is debt free. He enabled me to pay off all of my bills and continue on worry-free in a downshifting economy. I would at any time recommend Mr. Shulman to anyone needing an attorney. He has my eternal thanks. – Diane, Milwauikie, OR
I was obviously still not doing great with post-traumatic stress stuff, and Joshua called me and said we need to have a meeting. And he just had a nice, personal talk with me about post-traumatic stress and how if I wasn't ready to settle, that he thought I should seek counseling, and that he would take time - give me time - to figure out what I need to do to feel better about it. It stressed me out to even think about it. But I feel like they did a really good job at tracking me down and making me do it - in a very nice way. I feel like he's very personable, really easy to communicate with, very easy to be open and honest with about all aspects of the case. I felt really nice just being separated from it, being out of town, and knowing that I could have left this and have it under control and not really have to deal with it personally. - M.R. of Portland, OR

“Great book!! Great Resource! Thank you for demystifying the process. It is amazing how simple it can be to understand this complicated and intimidating part of the justice system. Few resources are as clear and helpful, for plaintiffs and lawyers alike! Great job!!” - K.W., of Portland, OR
"Josh went the extra mile and it was all gratis. He was a blessing and shall be blessed in return. [He] told me what to expect in advance.... We set the parameters in advance and stayed within them. [He] did everything for me. I didn't even have to come to [the] office. -J.S., of Lake Oswego, Oregon
"It was my pleasure to read 7 Common Mistakes That Can Wreck Your Oregon Accident Case. . . . I worked as a claims adjuster for nearly ten years. I would tell anyone who has been involved in a motor vehicle accident to read this book, and to read it before answering questions from a claims adjuster or investigator. The insurance companies do not want you to read this book! I intend to keep the book handy as a little reminder and I would not hesitate to have one of my clients read it." - K.P., attorney, of Beaverton, OR
“I’m very pleased with the service. [The case] was very stressful. From the aches and pains I had in the beginning to dealing with the insurance companies one-on-one. But then, having to go through litigation – it was very stressful. And it makes you feel like you’re a bad guy, and having somebody on your side proving that you’re not the bad guy, that you’re a victim feels very nice. And that’s exactly what happened. From the beginning of our first appointment with Sean, just the formalities of: This is what I have to bring to him; this is what he has to offer, and we met in the middle. It was totally in the middle. No empty promises. It was: This is what I can do, everything else is up in the air until we get to the end, you know, it’s out of our control. But this is what we can do. And I don’t lose. You don’t know what to look for. You don’t know what to and what not to look for. You know you don’t want a bad lawyer; you want a good lawyer. You want to go in and get out and feel okay about it. And from this standpoint, it’s been like that. That was very reassuring and he came across as professional at all times, very down to earth, and very informative at all times. Any questions I had, he explained in full detail, but in layman’s terms. . . . Sean prepping me, the meeting beforehand, worked out really well. The preparation for that helped me a lot. I tend to talk very fast. And Sean, he helped me with that so that I could come across not scatter-brained and scared and confused and just really focus on the truth. And that was very helpful.” - M.R., Portland, OR

"The honesty section [in 7 Common Mistakes That Can Wreck Your Oregon Accident Case] is great! The gardening explanation is really helpful. . . . I'm going to steal it from you as a great example to encourage clients to be clearer and more accurate, in addition to honest. People think it's a no-brainer to be honest, but still, people are so conditioned to exaggerate or manipulate things if they think it will help them. If we focus them on being clear and accurate, (and honest), maybe we'll actually get optimal results!" - Kristen West, an attorney and past client, from Portland, Oregon
"I bought you doughnuts because I was so happy that you helped me, and I just wanted to show you my appreciation...for getting me the most money that you could for my troubles, for my pain, for what I went through, and I really appreciate that. And I know you put your best effort into that every step of the way. And you called me to let me know what you were doing; you shared with me all of the information. To have somebody else take care of it when you're trying to deal with all the things that you have to deal with in relation to the car accident and trying to go to physical therapy and everything like that. It would have been a much bigger stress on my back to try to deal with insurance companies. I already did try for a few days there, so, I know what it's like to talk to them when they're manipulating. So it was nice to be able to put it in your hands and not have to deal with it - and get a check at the end. It was just a lot more than just the pain, you know. There was a lot of other stuff that went on. You know, it's nice to be compensated just a little bit for all the other stuff I dealt with and I appreciate you helping me." –S.G., Portland, OR
As a Doctor, I consistently recommend this book to my patients. Even the ones who will likely have uncomplicated cases benefit from educating themselves with this easy-to-read guide. This book was written by Lawyers who will arm you with the facts, not a sales pitch, using light and upbeat language. It equips you to understand and deal with the insurance company and avoid any pitfalls along the way. - Dr. Jess Barr Desbrow, D.C.
I commend the authors for providing a public service through this book, both to injured persons and to the public at large. The pitfalls they mention are accurate, and in my experience, people who fall into these traps significantly and negatively impact any recovery they might otherwise receive. I particularly found the "10 questions to ask the insurance adjuster" to be incredibly helpful and empowering. This book provides valuable information and insight that will increase an injured person's chances of getting a fair settlement. This is one book that insurance companies and defense lawyers surely do not want to be made public." -Personal injury defense lawyer (asked to remain anonymous; written quote in file)
"Looking at this much money, I don't want to just jump and do something. I want to think it out and see what's left and go from there.
Sean did a really good job of keeping me calm and my wife calm too. It's a real hard thing to go through. It's not easy. If I had to go through it again . . . I sure wouldn't want to go through it again. But if I had to I'd definitely have Sean on my side. I think he did a really awesome job of taking care of us.
You ask yourself, with the injuries and stuff that I've got to live with the rest of my life, no it's not worth it. It never will be worth it. But at least this will get us going in a different direction.
What's the one most important thing he could have done differently or better? He did a really awesome job all the way through. I really don't know anything that he could have done better. He did a really good job all the way through. There was a lot to this. He had all of his Ps and Qs and stuff together. I think he did it right.
To be honest with you, when we went into that hearing, I wasn't expecting that much money. I was expecting a lot less. So we walked out with over $100,000 more than we expected, which is pretty good.
It was a real good move for Sean to have all those people there. That was just awesome because everyone knew everyone, and they were all right in tune with what was going on.
Sean did a really good job of getting us the money and I'm really happy with it. We can get on with our life now and do what we want to do.
We're going to be having a big barbeque, and you guys are going to have to come up for it."

The book was simple and easy to read and understand... I have already passed the book on to a friend whose daughter and grandson were badly injured in an auto accident. -S.P., Portland, OR
I found the book [7 Common Mistakes That Can Wreck Your Oregon Accident Case] to be very informative and easy to read. I felt it provided excellent information that would be helpful for a person injured in an automobile accident who is seeking compensation for injuries suffered from the accident. The book provides options to people and advice on how to pursue a claim.
My case is rather unique so the book did not really apply to me except for dealing with insurance companies. The book dealt with auto accidents and not falling trees. Even though the book did not really apply to me I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is seeking information about dealing with insurance companies when involved in an auto accident.
-D.M., Vancouver, WA
I just received your book. I thumbed through it and thought I would read it tonight but I started reading it and could not put it down until I finished. It is absolutely brilliant. It's informative, warm and honest. It's also easy to follow.

"I must add that this past year I worked for an executive suite that housed several attorneys. I noticed that often times their clients were only seen for a few minutes, appointments were booked within five minutes of each other and phone calls were rarely returned (I know this because I answered the calls). One thing that I took away from working with you was that I felt as though I was your only client. Phone calls were returned every time, emails were replied to, and all my questions regarding the issue were answered in a timely manner. I also did not feel as though our meetings were rushed in any way and the setting was calm and comfortable. I never had to call to get the status of my case because you always made the call to me first." -T.M., Portland, OR
"Prior to our meeting I must admit I was a little anxious. Here I was a student, naturally worried about how I was going to pay for the services and not quite sure of my rights . . . . The anxiety quickly dissipated after our first meeting. You sat down with me, listened to my concerns, and gave me a list of documents I needed to collect in order to make the process run smooth. I was informed of my rights . . . . After leaving the office, I felt optimistic that my issue would be resolved. When I got home that night there was even an email waiting from you - how reassuring it was to know you had already started working on my case!" -T.M., Portland, OR

I was able to pay off all of my bills, then also got a second settlement that allowed me some financial freedom. Every aspect was handled well. Never did I dream that an attorney could represent me fully without me having to pay a retainer up front.
"My case was so well handled, and the results were so life changing for me, I have only wonderful things to say. In this economy, I'm even more grateful to you than you will ever know, that you took the time to listen to me where the other attorneys would not. You were always honest, never offered me false hope, always were there every step of the way. But most importantly, I can never find words to thank you for believing I had a case, and stepping up for me even though I had no up front money to offer you. Because of you, I'm able to navigate through this economy's financial crisis without the constant calls from the bill collectors. I had considered bankruptcy, but I held my own because you were fighting for me. I think about you often and will never forget your name." -D.B., Portland
